Coach-Mentor Spotlights

Hi! I’m Christine, Head Tennis Coach at St Paul’s Way Trust School.

Growing up, I was an elite athlete in the wrong sport! I was competing in regional gymnastics tournaments by the age of eight. I only transitioned to tennis at the age of 17. However, I was named after Chrissy Evert, the former US tennis player, so I guess I was destined to end up in tennis!

While at university studying Secondary Physical Education and Science, I joined the tennis team, giving me the opportunity to join a tennis club, and eventually winning both singles and doubles championships for many years.

Over my coaching career, I’ve been able to pick up many qualifications, including a Level 4 LTA Senior Club Coach and a Level 3 Education and Training qualification. They’ve helped me obtain accolades like the Jack Petchey Leader Award, the LTA Coach Commendation Award and more.

I’ve always had a desire to give back and teach the next generation. I coached at tennis clubs for many years, but the passion just wasn’t there – I felt very empty. I’ve now been at Greenhouse for over 13 years, and the fulfilment of using tennis to improve the lives of young people – who never would have tried tennis otherwise – is immense. I love it!”
