The Youth Council: Giving young people a voice in Greenhouse Sports

Greenhouse Sports

Last week, we held our annual Youth Council recruitment day. The Youth Council acts as a mouthpiece for the young people participating in Greenhouse Sports programmes across London, allowing them to feed back to the organisation. Being a member of the Youth Council is a great experience for young people, for building their life skills and bolstering their CVs for employability later in life.

Nominated by their coaches for exceptional levels of dedication to their sport, 80 young people took part in workshops throughout the day designed to get them thinking creatively. Workshops were provided by the Marketing, Fundraising, Impact, and Programmes departments from Greenhouse Sports, and included tasks such as a Dragon’s Den-style presentation, video creation and editing, and building structures. Taking a break in the middle of the day for lunch, attendees also got the chance to interview our Trustees and find out what it takes to sit on the board of a charity.

At the end of the day, the Youth Council were chosen. Throughout the year, the Council will meet to discuss and brainstorm aspects of running our charity, as well as receive training from different departments.

Stay tuned for more details about the members of our Youth Council and what they hope to accomplish.
