“Our partnership with Greenhouse helps hundreds of young people realise their full potential through sport, which helps lead to greater economic mobility,” Anthony Harte, head of Community Engagement for EMEA at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
This year, three apprentice coaches and one junior coach are generously supported by our partnership with Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofAML). These young apprentices have progressed from attending Greenhouse Sports’ sessions at school to ‘graduating’ and joining the charity as employees running sports sessions. While in post as junior or apprentice coaches, the young people will build their professional skills and experience before being supported into full time work.
In addition to funding support, BofAML has hosted employability sessions for Greenhouse Sports’ young people and has partnered each charity coach with a volunteer mentor from the bank with the aim of helping the coach to develop their career planning and goal setting.
This is an incredible opportunity for the coaches’ personal and professional development. Anthony Harte describes the value of providing mentors: “The mentoring support that we offer is a hands on way for our employees to make a real difference in developing apprentice coaches’ life skills and teaching them valuable and practical everyday skills that will help them as they progress into employment. We recognise that too many young people today are living on the margins without a secure career path, and we wholly support such initiatives that help them transition from education into sustained employment, leading to greater economic and personal success.”
During April, BofAML hosted an employability skills and sports session with young people from Bow School. Students from the school first attended a Nuffield Health boxercise class at the bank’s offices with employee volunteers. The group then took part in a skills sharing session on how to make a good first impression and confidently present yourself in professional situations.
Greenhouse Sports and BofAML are in the second year of our partnership. Huge thank you to the bank for working in partnership with us to raise the aspirations of young Londoners.
