Three highlights from the Prudential RideLondon ‘PruGOals’ launch
On a blustery Wednesday in early March, Greenhouse Sports travelled to Stratford to attend the launch of Prudential’s PruGOals campaign. Twenty-two of our coaches and participants will take part in the 46 mile Prudential Ride London, an incredible opportunity extended to Greenhouse Sports by Prudential. During the launch, participants attended wellbeing and nutrition workshops and received their bicycles, all organised by Prudential as part of their campaign to empower young people to realise their full potential.
Here are some highlights from the day…
Being in the Olympic Velodrome
The Lee Valley VeloPark is located in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. Walking into the track, it is easy to be reminded of the fantastic moments in sport that have occurred here. And as Nicola Adams said in her speech: “We may be standing amongst the next Bradley Wiggins or Laura Trott!”
This brings us to our next highlight…
Meeting Nicola Adams, OBE
Nicola Adams OBE, two-time Olympic gold medallist, will be riding alongside our participants during the 46 mile sportive. When speaking, Adams manages to be immensely inspiring at the same time as being humble and down-to-earth – a fantastic role model and mentor for the young people. When she spoke to our participants in a Q&A, she encouraged everyone to keep focused and believe in themselves.
Testing out our bikes
This is what Prudential RideLondon is all about! Being active is something we believe all young people should have the opportunity to do, and the PruGOals campaign is aimed at empowering young people regardless of social or economic background. Participants received bicycle fittings and training on how to ride safely, and then took their new bicycles out on a test run on the velopark track.
Prudential have been supporters of Greenhouse Sports since 2010, as the primary sponsor of our basketball programmes. They have funded seven secondary school programmes and 14 community club teams over five years. Prudential also named Greenhouse Sports as one of their community partners for Prudential RideLondon in 2016, an opportunity they have extended to 2017. Last year’s participants will offer their mentorship and guidance to the 15 other riders who will be new to the challenge of training and preparing for the cycle event.
Over the next few months leading up to Prudential RideLondon 46 in July, we will be introducing you to some of our participants who are taking on the challenge…
