Greenhouse Sports Football Club Head Coach Artur (“Jorge”) Alves was among 18 others recognised at this year’s FA coaching awards at St. George’s Park on Sunday evening. Jorge won the prestigious England Mini Soccer Coach of the Year Award at the ceremony and was presented with his trophy by Les Howie, Head of Grassroots Delivery.

Jorge has been with Greenhouse Sports for the past four years and has been a mini-phase coach for the last three seasons. He was joined at the awards ceremony by coaches from across grassroots and professional football who were recognised for their coaching achievements this year.

Delighted at his win, Jorge commented: “Winning the award was an incredible surprise! It means that all the hard work that I have put in over the years has been recognised and that feels good. My real motivation is the love for the game and my passion in developing young players. I feel realised every time I have the opportunity to work with a young player and see them growing not only as an athlete but also as a person. Being part of this process is something truly amazing. This all achieved by team work so I have to thank all my colleagues that supported me through out all this years.”

FA Technical Director Dan Ashworth said: “I would like to congratulate every coach who picked up an award this evening. Each one has achieved fantastic things not only this year but, in several cases, over numerous years. They have all shown incredible commitment to supporting their players, teams and clubs. They are all worthy winners.”

The ceremony, which took place as part of the four-day FA coaching conference at the national football centre, was the third time The FA has hosted the awards and for Ashworth they continue to play an important role: “These awards are really valuable because they allow us as The FA to recognise some amazing coaches whose commitment, dedication and passion to supporting our national sport would otherwise go without acknowledgement.”

Jorge’s team leader, Matthew Shobande, said: “Jorge deserves this moment. I have had the pleasure of working with Jorge in the past few years at GSFC, and when it comes to developing young players at an under-10 level, I think I can safely say there aren’t many better. His patience, knowledge and standard of practice illuminates the sessions he delivers. Congratulations.”

Greenhouse Sports FC is one of only 16 FA Charter Standard Community Clubs in London.
