Greenhouse Sports FC win their first match of the season
Last night, our community football club Greenhouse Sports FC lined up against Cockfosters FC in the FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round at Coles Park, watched by an enthusiastic crowd. Greenhouse started strong, hitting the bar of Cockfosters’ goal early in the first half from a free kick 40 yards out. But it was the opposition who scored first following a great cross from the right allowing Ben Spaul to score.
Greenhouse Sport FC fought back with an on target shot at goal from Koroma, but he was flagged offside. Shortly after, a corner from GSFC curved towards goal and was saved initially only to be fired home by Chouba to make it 1-1. Towards the end of the first half Ayinde took advantage of a defensive mix up from Cockfosters to make it 2-1.
GSFC came out all guns blazing in the second half, an early shot from Koromba curled over the keeper into the top corner to make it 3-1. “What a goal!” tweeted East London Radio Football Show. The supporters went wild. The drama continued when GSFC’s Emmanuel Stephen was sent off for his second bookable offence shortly after.
Cockfosters pressed home their advantage with a goal from Bao, but the GSFC first team hung on for a 3-2 victory. It was a gritty and aggressive performance from both teams and a great start to the season for GSFC. The teams next FA Vase match (vs. Hadleigh United) will be played on Saturday 3 October at 3pm, Coles Park, Haringey, N17 7JP.
If you can’t wait that long, the team play Clapton at the historic Old Spotted Dog (E7 9NP) this Saturday (12th September) at 3pm. Clapton has a group of fans called the Clapton Ultras, who have been setting attendance records throughout non-league football for the last three seasons. Even if you don’t enjoy the football, this Saturday’s match promises to be a fun event and we’d love to see you there! Also, the Ultras are having a food drive on Saturday, so if you’re able, please bring a non-perishable.
