Dunking Diplomats: the first charity basketball event for London’s diplomatic community

The diplomatic community of London came together in May for the very first ‘Dunking Diplomats’, a basketball tournament in support of Greenhouse Sports. The brainchild of the Austrian and Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassadors, the event provided a unique opportunity to bring the diplomatic community of London together in the name of charity. With over 50 participants from 16 embassies, teams were split based on nationality, including the ‘European All Stars’ team which included players from Lithuania, Greece, Serbia and Sweden who won the inaugural event.

The tournament was facilitated by Greenhouse Sports coaches and basketball players, and provided the young people valuable refereeing, management and leadership experience. Attendees were impressed by the maturity and fairness with which the young people dealt with players, especially when disputes arose.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the organisers of the event: the Austrian ambassador Martin Eichtinger,  the ambassador for Bosnia and Herzegovina Branko Neskovic, and Embassy Magazine Editor, Elizabeth Stewart. We would also like to thank the sponsors of the event: IDS UK, Diplomatic Card, and Silhouette Eyewear, without whom the day would not have been possible.
