Cumberland School tennis team set for Aegon finals

The Cumberland School Year 8 Boys tennis team have battled their way to the Aegon Team Tennis Division 2 Final Play-Offs following a fantastic, hard fought victory over Bancroft’s School on Thursday 18th June. The team went in to this key fixture knowing that victory would see them rise to the top their division and qualify for the Play-Off Final, becoming the first Cumberland School tennis team to do so.

Joy showed strong leadership and courage to lead the way with a 6-3 victory over Bancroft’s No 1 player Sheik. Ullah then followed up with determined 6-2 and 6-4 wins, respectively. On court four, Johnny found himself in an epic tussle with their No 4 player, finally outlasting his opponent with mental strength and resilience to prevail 6-3 after an hour long battle.

Victory in all four singles rubbers meant that Cumberland School won the tie and the division before playing the doubles round. But the team showed no mercy, beating Bancroft’s School 6-2 and 6-4 to seal a 12-0 win! The team has now qualified for the Division 2 Play-Off Final against Brentwood School, with the date and time to be confirmed. Well done team – a fantastic performance!
