Cumberland School tennis programme celebrates best season ever!
It wasn’t the way the boys would have chosen to win it, but following Brentwood School’s failure to show up for the Year 8 Aegon Team Tennis Division 2 Play-Off Final on Wednesday 1st July and them subsequently conceding the tie, Cumberland School’s Year 8 Boys Team have been crowned Essex Division 2 Champions for 2015!
While it would have been better to win outright, this is a fantastic achievement for the team and caps the best season ever, not only for the Year 8s but for all three teams, who have all matched or surpassed their best league positions.
Alongside the divisional title for the Year 8 boys, the Year 10 boys finished runners-up in their group, and the Year 10 girls also finished joint runners-up in a closely contested division that included three of the most prestigious tennis school’s in Essex.
Greenhouse Sports Head Coach at Cumberland School, Gary Kruse said: “It’s been a fantastic summer of tennis here at Cumberland and I’m extremely proud of all the hard work, effort and commitment that the teams have put in.”
“We’ve finished the year with only three defeats out of 21 team matches that have taken place since last September and have beaten some of the best tennis school’s in Essex!”
“In the leagues, all three teams posted their best results ever, and we had a fantastic ‘Road to Wimbledon’ event here during the Summer Half Term.”
“We’ve visited the Championships at Wimbledon, hosted the second annual Greenhouse Sports Tennis awards, and some our players were picked to represent the borough in the London Youth Games. Well done to everyone!”
