Coach Core apprentices visit Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London and Paris
Great news from three of our original Coach Core apprentices who visited Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BoAML) last month as part of the bank’s support of the Junior Coach programme. Mulenga Chafilwa (23), Terrell Jordan (20) and Jordan Nelson (20) – who joined Coach Core in 2012 and went on to take their Advanced Apprenticeships two years later – have now reached the third year of their programmes.
Our apprentices – who are all now Junior Coaches – started off with a tour of the bank’s European Headquarters in London where they met senior employees from the Equities trading floor and learned more about the business. The Junior Coaches also spoke about their experience with Greenhouse Sports to date and how they will be impacting 500 young Londoners this year through their coaching of football, basketball and volleyball.
Speaking about the tour, Mulenga said: “The tour of BoAML was an absolutely amazing experience. We were made to feel welcome and visiting all the different departments within the bank was a real eye opener as you get to see the operations and how it all works and runs. And the staff were very keen to learn about what we do at Greenhouse Sports and how we impact our community. I am so excited about working with the BoA staff this coming year.”
Terrell said: “Being at the London office for BoAML was a real eye opener as I used to think that corporate banking was all stocks, shares and accounts. But I learnt that they also have heavy influence on things like the environment, arts and media which changed my whole outlook on how banking organisations work.”
After their visit, our three eager apprentices made their way over to Paris to play in a corporate football tournament with BoAML and some of their clients. This fun event was a fantastic opportunity to represent and promote Greenhouse Sports, and lead organiser for BoAML Stephane Alex – Managing Director, Global Banking and Markets – said: “BIG thanks to the three junior coaches Mulenga, Terrell and Jordan for coming to Paris. We – and our clients – had lots of fun hosting you all. I wish BofA Merrill had performed better on the pitch, but we did our best!”
Jordan added: “Being in Paris was great. This trip makes me want to travel to Europe to see places like Spain and Germany.”
Bank of America Merrill Lynch is supporting these three junior coaches in the upcoming final year of their apprenticeship and is providing them with additional mentorship. All three coaches will also host a company dodgeball event for BoAML employees later this year.
