Greenhouse London FC put on a show at Brimmington Park Festival
My name is Matthew Shobande and I’m Football Team Manager at Greenhouse London Football Club – that’s me on the right in the picture. Last weekend, a few of us coaches ventured out of our Burgess Park community home to deliver a session at the Brimmington Park Festival, Southwark, hosted by the ‘Friends of Brimmington’ on Saturday the 20th of June.
It wasn’t our first time delivering a football session to Brimmington Park’s local community, but we were excited to be invited back once again after the success of last year’s demonstration.
Through the day, we delivered skill and tournament sessions to over 50 children ranging from 4-16 years of age. Parents got really involved and were really keen to find out more about how to get their children involved with future sessions at Greenhouse London Football Club.
After our session, the coaches spent some time enjoying the main event of the festival. We shared conversation, food and drinks with the locals in the park from the area. During our time mixing and engaging with children and adults alike, I met the Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Dora Dixon-Fyle MBE, who gave a great speech at the event.
I spoke with Mayor Dixon-Fyle about the aims of Greenhouse London FC as a community club and she was keen to give myself and the rest of the coaches a mention through her twitter account to encourage the club in our work.
Thank you to the ‘Friend of Brimmington’ for inviting us again to deliver at the festival. Thank you also to Councillor Dora Dixon-Fyle MBE (Mayor of Southwark) for tweeting us at GLFC!
