Fighting to finish on top in Aegon Team Tennis

written by Gary Kruse – Tennis Head Coach at Cumberland School

Aegon Team Tennis season continued this week for Greenhouse Sports tennis programmes with matches for the Cumberland School Year 10 boys’ and girls’ teams. On Wednesday, the Year 10 Boys team traveled to Jo Richardson School in Dagenham and came home with an impressive 12-0 victory, which keeps them at the top of the Division 2 table. Next Thursday (11th June), the Year 10 Boys take on Brampton Manor Academy at Cumberland. If they win that match, they’ll top their division and qualify for the Play-Off Final. Supporters are welcome!

On Thursday night, the Cumberland girls’ team took on Bancroft’s at home and fell to a 10-2 defeat, despite playing some fantastic tennis over the course of the evening. Special mention must go to Jessica in Year 7 who beat a Year 10 girl 6-3 in her singles match! Despite the defeat, if the girls win their last match they still have a shout of winning their division.

In other news, the LTA released their Regularly Competing Juniors figures last week and in terms of players competing, Cumberland School are now the top tennis school in Essex, with 34 players playing matches over the last six months. We are 20th in the whole county (out of 100)! I’m very proud of my team, well done!
