Celebrating the end of the basketball season

The Greenhouse Sports league final

Our basketball programmes came together in an incredible showcase of their skill at the Greenhouse Sports basketball league finals held at Barking Abbey School.

The results are as follows:

U12 Girls:    Barking Abbey 28 vs 25 Cumberland

U12 Boys:    Platanos 33 vs 17 Norwood

U14 Girls:    Clapton 38 vs 26 St Gabriels

U14 Mixed: HASN 51 vs 11 St Gabriels

Well done to all players and coaches who helped close yet another great season. Young officials from Harris Academy South Norwood and Clapton Girls Academy also participated on the day, helping to run the event and gain vital experience they can use in the future.

The Basketball Awards evening

Our annual basketball awards evening was held the following day at Platanos College. Basketball coaches from each of our programmes nominated players from their programmes for awards, such as Player of the Year. Medals were presented on the night alongside inspiring speeches from past participants. Khaleah, who will be attending Wagner College in NYC on a full scholarship, spoke of how Greenhouse Sports made her the player – and person – she is today.

Jane Rawnsley and Taslima Khatun from Prudential, the key supporter of all our basketball programmes, also attended the evening. Jane, who is Head of Group Corporate Responsibility at Prudential, handed out awards to all our coaches for their hard work and dedication over the course of the year. Prudential have recently been shortlisted for a number of awards for their innovative partnership with the Greenhouse Sports basketball programmes, including the Better Society Awards and the Business Charity Awards.
