Burlington Danes Academy table tennis team shine

Our table tennis programme at Burlington Danes Academy, Hammersmith, has been running since 2009 led by one of Greenhouse’s most experienced coaches – Henry Medellin. The academy has many very dedicated and talented players who have developed their table tennis abilities from beginner to national level. Over the last few weeks, the team have attended three table tennis tournaments to test their growing STEP skills, including¬†sporting skills, confidence and determination. Three students had powerful learning experiences:

Israel has shown real courage and dedication while playing in the British Senior League division with players much more experienced and older than himself. He recently played in a competition where he won three matches and lost just one, which is a great achievement for Israel considering he is not a Senior player yet. Big congratulations!

Yassin played in the Milton Keynes 2-Star Championships. He performed really well in the early rounds and narrowly missed out on a place in the final losing 2-3 in the semis. “Yassin beat the No1 seed Zack in the quarter finals,” said Coach Henry, “which is a really good result because is was the first time that Yassin beat this player. Well-done Yassin!”

Yassmine was the star last weekend. She was one of nine Burlington Danes Academy players who attended the Gloucester 2-Star tournament in Cirencester. Yassmine was runner-up in

the U15 girls main event. “I’m very proud of her,” Said Coach Henry. “She played like a real champion, attacking from every corner and fighting every single point against a really good, blocking-style table tennis opponent.”¬†Hannah and Robel also played really well, both narrowly losing out in the quarter-final.

The tournament was a great experience for the young people, offering them a chance to test themselves against some of the strongest players in their age category. The team all dug deep and showed great resilience when tested by their adversaries. Well done to everyone who attended!
